Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist
Aesthetics 360 is proud to have Pat Kane, R.N. as an extension of our team of consultants.
Pat is a highly skilled nurse with broad experience in all phases of ophthalmology and plastic surgery. Her career as a surgical nurse began in 1978 at Pacific Hospital assisting in cataract surgery using phacoemulsification with Doctor Henry Hirshman, the first physician to implant an intraocular lens in a patient on the west coast. As Pat’s desire to work with advanced technology continued, she relocated to Texas in 1984 to work with Southern STAAR, Inc. When her work with Southern STAAR came to its conclusion, Pat joined the Alcon team as an Emmetropia Field Specialist.
For those of us who have been lucky enough to work with Pat, we all know her enthusiasm for learning new things and interacting with the public is never ending. It is that desire, and drive to be a part of something special, which then brought Pat to VISX. At VISX Pat’s position was as a Senior Manager overseeing Education and Training. Pat’s responsibilities required her to be involved in FDA approval processes for treating myopia through mixed astigmatism, creating on line certification for new approvals and overseeing in house system operators training programs. While Pat’s core strengths are in clinical her expertise was also utilized in marketing. Her position at VISX expanded beyond certifications and approvals and Pat was instrumental in the launch of AMO University and personally managed the ‘VISX STARS’ program.
Pat left VISX to become a Senior Clinical Account Manager with Argus Biomedical/Cooper Vision Surgical and then Director of Education and Training for Bio Vision AG. As a Director of Training at Bio- Vision Pat’s focus was on teaching physicians to use the micro-lens for correction of presbyopia in Mexico and South America. It is this experience Pat brings to Aesthetics 360 that adds another dimension of consulting for those surgeons who are considering adding presbyopia inlays to their practice.
Pat has also worked in private practice for both Ophthalmology and Plastics. The combination of working with corporate technology companies combined with her work in the private practice sector has afforded Pat the ability to take a more well-rounded approach when consulting with our customers. Her patience, knowledge, and desire to always improve leaves every practice Pat interacts with in a more positive and structured state. Pat’s most recent work was as Director of Nursing at Mann Eye Institute in 2009 through 2016.
During Pat’s work at Mann Eye Institute, she was responsible for overseeing three locations of the ASC that included eight operating room suites, staffing for all locations, AAAHC and Medicare accreditation, budgets, and P&L for the ASC operations. We are thrilled Pat has opened her availability to consulting as her vast experience brings clinical and surgical expertise to the Aesthetics 360 team.
